About RMH Compass: Scoring Methodology
As a nonprofit organization, our independent research and rigorous methodology ensure our tools and resources are unbiased, transparent, and credible. Through our work, we are building a business community that understands the value of reproductive and maternal health (RMH) benefits and is committed to ensuring access for workers at every level. Scoring of the RMH Compass Survey was developed in collaboration with our Standards Advisory Working Group and with input from other standards experts.
RMH Compass Survey Scoring
There are 100 possible points on the RMH Compass Survey. Points are allocated at the Topic level. Topic-level points are then distributed across each Topic’s three performance tiers. With a few exceptions, points for each Topic and Performance Tier (Good, Better, Best) are equally distributed.
For example, points are allocated evenly across the 16 Topics covered in the RMH Compass Survey; each Topic is worth 6.6 points – with one exception. The topic of Menopause & Menstrual Benefits has only one performance tier-level in this initial version of the standard (Good Performance), therefore the Topic is worth only one point. For the remaining 15 Topics, each Performance Tier – Good, Better and Best – is worth a possible 2.2 points.
There is one Topic that is not necessarily applicable to all companies. Many companies that take the RMH Compass Survey do not have any shift-workers. Therefore, those companies do not see the questions within the Shift Work section and the points from that Topic are evenly reallocated across the RMH Compass Survey. The general formula for point redistribution when calculating the total score captures the sum of earned points in each topic divided by the adjusted total points possible (subtracting 6.6 for each inapplicable Topic).
For the Workplace Accommodation and Political Giving topics, questions are displayed depending on the response to the first question in that topic. The displayed questions are worth a total of 6.6 points. If a company is fully remote, they will be shown one question with a set of relevant response options pulled from the three Workplace Accommodation performance tiers, and the company can earn full points for responding in the affirmative to those options. In Political Giving Practices, companies will earn a total of 6.6 points for the Political Giving topic if they have a public written policy that prohibits any form of political giving.
