Getting Started: Gathering the Right Documents for Your RMH Compass Survey
Our team is ready to benchmark your organization’s reproductive and maternal health (RMH) benefits and policies using the RMH Compass performance standard. The documents listed below provide responses to about 70% of the survey.
To ensure an accurate and complete assessment, please provide us with the following documents:
Summary Plan Description (SPD) from your health insurance provider. This is sometimes called Schedule of Benefits, Certificate of Coverage, or Evidence of Coverage. (~20% of survey data)
We use this document to extract information on the following topics:
Overall Health Care Coverage
Telemedicine Benefits
Fertility Diagnostics and Treatment
Mental Health Care Benefits
Abortion Benefits and Related Travel Reimbursements
Doula, Lactation, and Midwifery Care

Current Employee Handbook or separate documents outlining PTO policy, paid parental leave, workplace accommodations, and shift-work policies. (~20% of survey data)
This document is critical for understanding the full spectrum of employer-provided support in the workplace, including:
Paid Time-Off
Sick Leave and Bereavement Leave Policies
Paid Parental Leave Policies
Workplace Accommodations for Lactating Workers
Data Privacy Policies
Shift-Work Policies (if applicable)
Pharmacy Benefit Plan or Prescription Drug Plan Formulary (~15% of survey data)
We use this document to verify covered medications, such as:
Contraceptives
Fertility Medications
Mental Health Prescriptions
Over-The-Counter Medications
Other Reproductive and Maternal Health Medications, Including FDA-Approved Medicated Abortion Prescription Drugs
Benefits Guide or Open Enrollment Communications. This should be your most recent open enrollment materials outlining all of the benefits options available to both ESHP-eligible and noneligible employees. (~15% of survey data)
To understand how your organization presents and explains benefit options to employees, including information on:
Employer-Sponsored Health Plan Options and Employee Out-of-Pocket Expenses
Pre-Tax Health Reimbursement Benefits
Eligibility for Health Plans and your Emergency Assistance Program (EAP)
Tip: If your organization partners with any third-party reproductive and maternal health benefit providers (i.e. Maven, Carrot, Midi, etc.) please provide a summary of those included benefits as well.
Once we’ve reviewed the outlined documents, we will be able to provide you with a preliminary Insights Report highlighting strengths and recommended opportunities for improvement. Additional documentation beyond this list may be needed to fully complete your survey due to variation in how companies capture and communicate benefits and policies.
